Hi Rod, are you sure there was an original horn - of any brand? There's no mention or picture of a horn or horn button in the owners guide. Probably due to the new fangled electricity being too complicated.
Sparton is an US company and would certainly have been period, but Lucas was making Altette horns in 1930.
Unless it was a hand operated klaxon type, I would wonder why they didn't use the local brand?

In the Netherlands 1930-1932 Ariel had a Bosch horn.

I have springs, have to measure them.

The 30 models had electrics and I would have thought a horn would be a feature of that. The Generator and Magneto all lights etc are LUCAS. Why wouldn't the horn be the same maker? Nev

Could you post a photo Rod?
I won't argue with the Archivist and the factory records!

I've recently bought the remains of a 1932 MA3 350. An inclined side valve version of the MF32, only made for Stokvis & Zonen - Ariel dealers in Rotterdam. Anyway, the point of my posting is because with the bike came some Dutch Ariel advertising literature for 1933 which lists both the 'Lucas Altette' and 'Lucas Spartan' electric horns as 'alternative equipment available at extra charge'. Unfortunately there is no picture of a Spartan horn but I've uploaded a copy of the relevant page. Hope this helps!
