Matchless starter story

Postby Vincent.vanGinneke » Thu Sep 14, 2017 10:32 pm

Looks like it would fit on a Ariel swingarm model with a few adaptions (...)
Made in 2012, so did anyone see this around ?
Interesting.....

Someone local has one of these kits fitted to a Matchless. Were nt cheap,as a new primary case pair is included. There was also something about getting clutch bits wirecutEDM d.Might have been for a belt,as well.Lots of expensive bikes(Inters ,Velo s,etc) having these fitted on account of being owned by rich old guys, who are doddery. If all new bits ,and no bike wreckage, then I suppose theyre OK.I dont like them.Bit like fitting an auto trans to a Redlabel Bentley, cause the mega rich owner cant use a crash box.

I agree with with John on this one, I wouldn't brother nor like the idea of fitting one.

Don't be too hard on the idea, John. I have been riding Ariels on the road for the past 66 years and I now find it increasingly difficult to start them. If I have a choice between not riding any more or fitting a self starter it would be hard to not choose the starter.

This is the Velocette one : http://alton-france.com/velocette-starter/
Vincent Twins can have a starter made by Grosset also in France, http://www.thevincent.com/Electric-Star ... tions.html
I think that Patrick Godet fitted those until recently.
Possibly he now makes his own version.

And..... you just have to get old enough to see the advantage !
