Alan has managed to get my old metalastic bushes out of my swinging arm. I bought two oilite bushes from here. 22mm internal dia 32mm outside dia 50mm long. https://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/Beari ... index.html . I just had to take a small amount off the outside dia but to make sure they dont move I've used some loctight. They are pushed in so they stand proud by just a couple of thou. Tomorrow I'll ream it to take the spindle. Alan has also drilled and treaded for me the hole for a grease nipple.

Steam Eero, it was the quietest thing there, I spent a few moments with my coffee standing next to it warming up :D

Steve, how are you going to stop the side to side movement with the fork?
Do the outside of the bronze bushes trust against the gusset plate in the frame ?

No because my new 7/8" dia silver steel spindle is cut about 4 thou longer. Its the center spindle that is tied in place tight onto the gusset plate by the long bolt and acorn nuts. Having the spindle that tiny bit longer alows the swinging arm to , well swing :D

Technically your right there could be a bit of sideways movement but its all back in now and I cant feel any sideways movement.
Thats not to say it will stay that way, we'll see

I made the spindle by drilling a hole right up the middle going past halfway and then turned it around and went in from the other end, miraculously I met in the middle. :D

You can see the spindle just sticking out proud

It was very satisfying watching the greese come out.

Steve, does the spindle go through the lathe headstock? I'm wondering if I will be able to drill the centre hole using my 7 x 14 mini lathe, which has a 20mm hole through the headstock.

How long is the swinging arm spindle?
cheers

Stev, are you sure, silver steel is a good choice? I have always been warned against using it for fork spindles because of brittleness.
Of course the dimension is bigger, but anyway.

I think it will be strong enough Knud as the orginal center spindle is actualy made from 3 separate bits, two inner bushes and the center spacer. The whole plot is held together by the tie bolt that goes right through the middle which is stainless.
