Agree with John about the material. If it's SG (or nodular iron) it will "weld" OK with nickel bronze as a fill material of high strength, if it "tins" ok. If it's a crap casting it won't be as good a job as if it's good clean metal. Cast metal will be more likely to bend successfully,when heated to an even DULL red with care, but if it's junk it will just crack at or near the bend.. If it's crap you don't really want it on your bike as it may break and fall over and damage it and other bikes near it. Stand material should be forged steel by rights, (or fabricated) though these days SOME quite good steel castings can be done but only if the foundry knows what it's doing. Nev

Thank you all for advise, pictures etc. Plenty to to think about. I will have a long look at it over the week end.
