Out of interest what do people balance the crank too?

Same as the singles 65% but do it dynamically as the shaft is fairly wide. This requires special weights to be fitted to the crankpins. Pretty similar to the early speed twin/ tiger 100 triumphs.. I will have to get around to doing mine some day.. (and cleaning out the oil galleries.) I have a few spare timing covers of various years. .if you are stuck. Oh and a brand new early head. small finned. Doesn't fit mine. Well it does but the fins don't line up. It would still run fine.. There's differences in push rods , rockers and camshafts cam gears. Triumph pistons fit but the gudgeon pins are a few thou different in diameter. Nev

Early cranks have one oil hole for each conrod, later cranks have two oil holes each.
On the pic a later crank, oil holes are opposite of eachother.
Early ones have it facing towards mainshaft / inside.

Cheers gents. The cams changed I believe but is there any difference in power between the two?

Well what I have been told the bike all there apart from. Petrol tank oil tank. Engine and gearbox. no engine plates. And no primary cases.
So far been offered an engine

So all is looking good to get a complete bike!

Cheers Paul. Could you tell me if its correct that early 51 had a chrome tank and in that year they moved to all painted tanks.

Yes Lee, part way through the 1951 season, the chrome ran out - or actually, I believe, the nickel to go underneath the chrome. If you PM me the engine and frame numbers, I should be able to tell you whether the bike came out before the chrome ran out or after.
