You can hear a high pitched wine amidst all the other SQ4 noises? Your ears must be better than mine!

Neither of my AO regulators makes any noise.

my ears aren't that good
Its only when I turn on the ignition but before I start her up. Its easy to not hear it at all, but turn the ignition off and then on and you can just hear the noise
definitely not the early stages of tinnitus

I have to suspect that there is a poor connection in the regulator leading to something moving to create the whine. A duff regulator is my conclusion, in short. But the conclusion is tempered by the fact that I thought I had seen all possible oil leaks until the day drops of oil appeared on the outside of the glass of my speedo!!

I think you are right -a duff unit. I will try an old wasell reg I have lurking in my garage and see what that does.
Failing that I have one which works well on my panther M100 which I could substitute for a test

after getting Alan Osbourne to check the unit it seems my electronic regulator is okay.
Refitted it today - no joy, so I went for broke.
I swapped the Dynamo and field leads over and hey presto - we have life. Took the bike for a run and all is very good with a steady charge and no issues.
My problem is now over but! - remember by Lucas regulator obviously worked well with the output wires the wrong way around leading from the dynamo.
I thought the F wire was the D wire and vice versa. - Anyone with similar issues as mine , it might be worth checking.
I had no idea a mechanical regulator with Field and Dynamo connected the wrong way could work, so missed the problem on conversion
