Oil Pressure Gauge onto a WNG

I'd like to fit a pressure gauge to my WNG.
It's got the take off on the rockers but not mounting in the tank.

Not sure where to mount one anyway .. if it's on the handlebars then any oil pipe will fracture, so it has to be 12v. um
I cannot even find a gauge with a mounting pod ..

Anyone else done it ?

Think the fitting on the rocker feed is the flow adjuster. I don't know why you would bother John. The oil system is rellable if the gasket is sound and the ball and spring are in good condition on the supply pump. Also the pressure valve is not machined for in the WNG cover so you cannot adjust the pressure to allow you to read it. That pressure serves no purpose except to tell you the pump is operating and the extra back pressure just loads the pump up. Nev

Hi John, I think it's reassuring to know that there is some pressure, however inaccurate it might be...
If you are going all hi tech and 12v, have you considered a light? A red globe could go almost anywhere.
or.. These would look pretty unobtrusive if painted green.

You could tuck a gauge opposite where your speedo is - and run a bracket off the headlight mount. I think it would look ok.

Hi Nev, I'm pretty sure the oil take off for the guage was from the front rocker until about 1952 or so, when it Tee'd off the main return to the tank. Given the fits and bursts I see going into the tank, that would be next to useless?
Stinker here. 37 already. Overnight low was 28.

I have a later WNG; it's the same arrangement of oil feed and pressure gauge until they deleted them at the end of the 40's (without the tank mounting for the gauge tho')

A light would be fine; would need one that is adjustable and would need to go to 12v ?
All you need to know is "pressure on/pressure off"

If you fit a warning light at what pressure will it operate? An illuminated or flickering light might cause more worry than reassurance. Keith.

Lights and senders used to operate at either 7 or 15psi, probably gone the way of every thing else and NLA. Ill correct that,because you can still get replica Harley pressure senders,and they re 6v,and operate at very low pressure,like 1psi. Thread 1/8 NPT.Regards John.

Is that the thread size into the rocker take off ?

It wont be NPT,because thats American,but it might be BSP,and the two will screw together(28 vs 29tpi.)Its more likely brass thread,and an adaptor would be required.Oil lines to gauges often fail making a mess,or worse if its not noticed.A sender is the sensible alternative.Norton had a plunger that sticks up out of the timing case when there s oil pressure,but the idea wasnt continued after the war.Regards John.

I'll investigate the sender thing, which will mean power.
There is also an utter dearth of handlebar mounting solutions (unless you want a nice harley chrome one for nice Harey prices).

The 1939/40 models OG and OH 250s had a hole in the centre of the fuel tank for an oil gauge. I think these tanks are the same size and have the same mounting points as a W/NG (but may be wrong). They are hard to come by as only a few hundred were made before the war came and the models were dropped when civilian production re-started.
