Ariel Colt rear hub

The rear hub on the 1957 basket case I bought is knackered, so bought a bantam d1-d3 hub which is meant to be the same. All the dimensions are all the same apart from the spoke mounting plates gap, my old hub is 2" and bantam is 1 3/4 " . Will this 1/4 make a difference? Did the colts from 1954-56 have the 1 3/4 " gap, draganfly list only one grease seal from 1957-58 .Is this due to the gap widening to 2" ? Can any Colt owners measure the gap and let me know.

I suspect you might run into a problem with the hub offset, i.e. where the rim sits in relation to the face of the hub when the wheel is in the machine.

I think it would be a good idea to mount that hub in your frame and see if you can get the rim in approximately the correct position, with that spoke flange 1/4" further over - the spoke angles are very shallow on the rear wheel of a Bantam.

What size is the colt rim? The Bantam rim is a 19" WM1 with 36 spokes; The spoke lengths will be different using a Bantam hub on a Colt, I suspect.

I do not have a rim , the previous owner had cut the hub out and throw the rims and spokes away. Draganfly list the standard rims as WM1 x 19" with 36 spokes.

Well, I'd set it up in the frame and see where the spoke flanges lie in relation to the frame centreline. See that the flanges are more or less equally spaced around the centreline.

I can take some measurements from my Bantam frame, but there are a few folks on here with Colts who may be able to help more effectively!

Michael, i can tell you the offset at the end of the week, unless someone gets in first with the measurement.

Measured from the edge of the rim to the flat outside of the sprocket is a 34 mm offset.

Thankyou Paul. Could you also measure the gap between the spoke plates to see if yours is 1 3/4" or 2 " .

on my 1954 Colt it is a 1.75 inch gap. Not a very good photo here.
