How do I refit the circlip that fits to top of fork slider ? Just spent 2 hours trying to refit it. There is no where to get hold of it like a modern one which has two small holes for circlip pliers. When I get one end in the other end pops out. Is there a special tool for the job?

I managed to get the circlips into their groove by the use of two screw drivers. One screw driver for holding one side of the circlip into its groove, the other to work it gently in the rest of the groove. Yes it will take some fiddeling...

I did mine the same way as Paul. But I will say there is no easy way of doing it. Just keep at it they will go in, it will just take awhile.

When you put them back, make sure that one end of the clip just crosses the cut out in the fork leg. That way they are easy to get our again.
If you put the cut out half way along the clip, so the end of the clip is opposite the cut out, they are a real pain to remove...

I found that this tool makes clip removal a 5 minute job.
