Ebay

Postby robjameson » Thu Mar 08, 2018 10:13 pm

Is anyone else starting to get pleasantly surprised when your eBay ‘saved search’ for Ariel motorcycles brings up NON fraudulent listings?

It’s starting to get ridiculous, I can’t understand how they keep getting listed!

Also, while I’m ranting, the eBay/PayPal fees are getting close to extortion. I think I’ll stick to selling stuff here or at jumbles from now on.

I agree about eBay rates... It is an excellent means of reaching millions of people globally but they're certainly making us pay for it! One other option is using the "Sell something" option on Facebook groups; it's free (so far) and reaches a global like-minded audience. I see it increasingly often in other groups that I follow. :-)

I have to say as an occasional seller the ebay rates don't seem too bad - in fact last month listings were free and final value fees are only £1 regardless of value (for some categories anyway, but including motorcycle parts). I sold a BTH mag I'd got in a box of bits for over £400 and only paid £1......

And I can't stand FB.

I must have missed the cheap selling fees, I’ve lost 10%. Plus whatever PayPal takes too.

These Scams are popping up all the time I just reported one to E-bay 159 listings at £1.21 start price over 4 pages all vehicles, all selling on behalf of their uncle Steve, they took them down immediately, if you see one that looks dodgy click on the other items for sale button to see how many the are listing and report them to E-Bay, some people appear to be taken in as some of the listings had been bid up into the thousands, e-bay is great for buying if you use your common sense, I use it to find items and then check their own websites to see if its cheaper for instance. and as Ian says wait for the
free /£1.00 listings
I don't like FB either.

I agree there seems to be loads of fake sales at the moment. A dodgy Velocette came up recently so I just bid £20,000 straight away. Someone else had the same idea and we had this Venom up to about £80,000 before eBay pulled the ad.
( putting a high bid in ensures no one else gets duped before eBay pulls the ad, and amuses me too !)

Yes, there are a lot of fakes. I've just reported a 30s side valve Norton starting at £1.22........
