Vb 600 gearbox sprocket

Hi

I have recently become proud owner of my first Ariel a VB600 and am currently going through it before getting it on the road..

One thing that is badly worn is the gearbox sprocket. It’s a 19t now but I was wondering if there is any value in replacing it with 20t for sedate solo work. Has anyone on the forum been down this route in the past and if so was it a good plan ?

19 is standard the normal way of changing gearing is with the engine sprocket take a look and see if it has the side car sprocket fitted if so change to solo one.

Hi,
I have only joined the forum and am in a very similar position to you Dave.
I have just got a 1937 VB back on the road and the previous owner had a sidecar on it but it was split off prior to my purchasing it. I noticed on the first run I have done that the engine is turning over a bit quick and the speedo is reading way too high almost but not quite a direct conversion to km/hr.
I had read that it was normal to change the engine sprocket but maybe the previous person has changed the gearbox sprocket. All the sprockets were still in great shape so I hadn't thought of tooth numbers when I was working on it. The standard setup then is 19T on the gearbox and what for the engine please?

Hi all,

I had not considered the effect on the speedo Nev so will leave that sprocket at 19t but a new item...as suggested by Leejm changing the engine sprocket would be the way to go ..... speaking to Draganfly earlier today, they list two, a 20t and 23t the 23t being the best for solo work.
