Back numbers of Cheval

Postby john.mitchell » Mon May 04, 2020 2:30 pm

As most members will know we have back nos. up on the Cheval Repositary site from mid 2005.
In order to get older back numbers up too we needed to find a way effectively to scan actual magazines to .pdf. Thanks to a lot of hard work and considerable expertise from Peter Collins of Cardiff this has been achieved and the first new one up there is August 2005. We are trying to see what level of file quality we need to use to balance between being acceptable to read and the file being awkwardly large.
I would appreciate it if one two members could check this latest edition on http://www.arielownersmcc.co.uk/members_only/index.html and see if they feel it is acceptable.

No Steve, the 2003 back issue was one supplied by Pagefast the printers so it should be as good as any of the later ones.

Following my slipup when scanning the August 2005 Cheval (Old scanner and too much image cropping routines!! ) I have now set up a more modern computer and scanner, and used these to rescan the copy. This was done using two page image scans against the single page cropped image used before, which also has the benefit of reducing the file size for those that wish to download the file to their computer for more careful reading. The current scanned image can also be searched for particular words in Adobe Acrobat reader, using the Edit/Find menu, useful if you are looking for a specific topic.

Please have a look at the August 2005, and see what you think. it can be found in the members section of the AOMCC website, under Library/Cheval Repository.

I plan to go ahead and scan further copies going backwards in time, so any feedback would be useful before I start to do so. Please remember that although I have a certain level of proficiency in IT, I am not a professional and do not have any sophisicated software.

Hello Pete,
The August 2005 Cheval is easy to read on my PC and took well under a minute to download so I say you have done a good job. Thank you for the time and effort spent.
