I forgot to mention that my bike has the standard rear hub, not the quickly detachable one. See photo:
Thanks Klaus

As far as I know most Sq4s used the quickly detachable rear wheels. My bike has the std rear hub. I was told that the blue brakeplate as in the picture above is an earlier type than 1953. Can anybody give me a clear view what year it actually is? Still looking for the right brakeplate for 1953.
Thanks Klaus

Hi Klaus, I'm pretty sure this brake plate is part number 4360-39 for a 1939 square four. I've been looking for one of these for quite a time and have ended up using a later one which is similar but the brake adjuster is held in by studs and nuts instead of forming part of the plate as yours does. Looking at the parts book for 1953 I think the brake plate I have is the 1953 version.
1939 600 OHV 4F, 1939 OH 250, 1939 OG 250 project, MF32 project, 1920 Ariel V twin project, 1956 Huntmaster and various odds and sods
