1930 LF project aquire.

Postby j.coleman » Thu Nov 02, 2017 9:34 pm

Hi, I at last have purchased a colt I have known about for 10 years . Previous owner did nothing, not even spray some oil on it to preserve it better. Anyway I thought you might want a look and also check if its a matching numbers bike. The frame number is L8816, engine is M4174, gearbox is RPD 30884
Best regards Jim Coleman

Hey Jim
While you are loading pictures, why don't you show the ones of your model G. The one you restored that had been previously made into a garden tractor!! Very impressive mate.

heart shaped?
Should the chrome tank have the heart shaped chrome panel on top around the filler cap / gauges? Also it appears to have a sump protector? and it appears to have a 3" dynamo and a voltage control box under the seat. Do you think it started with acetaline lights, then added torch light then electric? Or perhaps electric died and then torchlight. No side stand.

The prefixes indicate 1930. The same does the rearstand. 1929 had a centerstand.

All numbers match. It left the factory in June 1930, with a chrome plated petrol tank.

Thanks Paul, was there any other info like what dealer it was sent to ( probably Aberdeen ) log book says it was registered 30th October 1930. What is my best option for saving the original registration number. I have old logbook from 1948 to 1965. An mot from 1965, and tax disc from 65. But I know DVLA are much more difficult these days.
Sump guard is also a prop to hold up the bike while you change the front wheel! ! That's why front mudguard rear bracket is not a front stand.

Hi jim
Nice find even more complete than my 31 LF it looks like you have a different paint pattern on the tank very interesting headlight bracket look pressed steel not tube I dont think it would have had the heart shaped panel on the top of the tank the oil pressure gauge looks in better shape then mine and mine works. What is the best way to clean it soak it in degreaser then a gentle wash? Interesting to see the rear foot pegs I have part of one on the 27 triumph. it looks like you have an RP gearbox as well. Is the motor free? again very nice find

Good luck with it
