Square four Mk2 extra tool box

Postby KevinOToole » Sat Oct 20, 2018 12:27 pm

I have a 1958 Square four Mk2 . At the Annual Rally, I saw a similar bike with an extra toolbox on the R/H side. Does anyone have any info about this mod? Which toolbox is it etc.

Kevin,

The earlier Square Fours had a six-pint oil tank with a tool box below it, yours should have the eight-pint tank which takes up all the space and so have the tool box on the left hand side.

I fitted both tool boxes to my '53 bike (back in 1970) as I had the smaller oil tank.

Was this the arrangement you saw (purists look away now  ) ??

Thanks Bob, the toolbox I have seen, was mounted as a mirror image of the left hand toolbox. It may have just been a left hand toolbox, mounted on the other side....
Photos are great, thanks for sharing them with me.

Hmmm, I did wonder if someone had done that.

I guess a standard toolbox would fit if it opener from the left and had new brackets welded on.

Chrome plating optional ( ).

Thanks Bob, I think you're right. I'll have to keep a look out for toolbox.

It might have been my 1956 Square at the rally. I used a standard Left hand tool box and made new brackets with some brass sheet. Fits well and looks right.

Thanks Bill, That's sort of what I thought but as they say.... always check , never assume! I'll have to look out for a left hand toolbox.
