Re: FS: Ariel 500 twin

I still have this. I don't think the price was untoward and I've had some interest (but very little really - I've sold some other stuff which has been significantly more popular). Folks that I have spoken to have really been after a plunger/rigid 500 single and didn't know much about the KH. I was h...

Re: Part number wanted

Get the "transfer" s from the club. They are for the W/NG. I haven't been completely successful at making them stay on so if you have any ideas let me know. Following me in the past has provided an opportunity for 3 observant people to profit by my loss. Nev That made me laugh out loud .....

Re: Side float carburettor

one of these: https://surreycycles.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/276-p-mbloc-pic-229x300.jpg You unscrew the top of the float chamber. There is a small bolt, towards the edge, which "locks the threads" and needs to be loosened before you can unscrew the lid. Reach in and pinch the top tab...

FS: Ariel 500 twin

I need the space in my garage and I don't ride this at all. I have a few other bikes running, inc 4 ariels, so all is not lost. I am looking for £4500 OR swap for a project of equivalent value ( I can store a project much easier to be done at some point) I've got some vids of it running, with oil pr...

Re: Advance/retard VB600

worn carbs aside, it's the conditions the bike will run at 95% of the time. My experience is that if you set it when the bike is too cold or too hot (esp on an air cooled bike) then it won't be quite right. I always set the idle slightly high, on a single especially, as sometimes they will stall if ...

Re: Advance/retard VB600

If you are just checking the timing, then all you need to do is check the position of the piston vs the opening of the points. Depending on your approach that's a stick and some thin paper or a TDC gauge and the TDC buzzer for magnetos. Takes about 5 mins and tell you if it's close or far out - don'...

Re: fieldmaster oil pump

You got a gauge on the tank ? There is a drilling in the crankcase, just under and to the left of the timing cover, from which the oil feed to the rockers attaches. A fair bit of pressure runs up there, which can lead to overoiling at the top end. This can be fixed by narrwing the rocker feed pipe (...

Re: Engine query

Without the factory record, then you can predict from the contract numbers what the engine number might have been based on the position of the frame number in the sequence. As Nev says, engines were swapped in use during the war and those records are long gone (although occasionally they do pop up)....
